Current Secretary/Treasurer Larry Michael created the Mentor Program, over 10 years ago.
The purpose then and now are still the same, and that is to assist our Associate Members (newer members), during their process of becoming a productive member of our organization.
Assigning an Active Member (veteran) does this, to each Associate Member. They are asked to interact throughout the season, through one on one meetings, phone conversations, and field games together etc. We hope that when the process is over, the Associate Member will have gained the confidence needed to continue as a productive member of the WNY Certified Officials Association.
A sister program, called the Facilitator program, was established to focus on the first year candidates, and there effort to not only to acclimate into our group, but to pass the Part II exam, which they must take for the first time. Again a veteran is assigned to a Candidate, but the focus is more on getting through that difficult first year, than trying to work through the entire process.
